Founded in 2010, FARBOD BARSUM represents the Ultimate in Couture Exotic Skin Handbags and Accessories.
We are commited to quality, luxury, and refinement. It is the attention to detail and understanding the complexity of working with exotic skins that gives our bags a definitive edge. Born of a passion for classical styling paired with modern vision in composition,FARBOD BARSUM gives you the finest in exotic skin accessories.
We are a Beverly Hills based design house manufacturing our product in the U.S. The sources of our materials are sustainably harvested and dyed in chrome free tanneries making our approach to design both ethical and ecologically sound. Our skins are registered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department and meet strict compliance with the international requirements of CITES. The designs are hand crafted by master artisans resulting in wearable art that is sought after by International Royalty, Celebrities, and Socialites.
The designer, Farbod Barsum, born into a family of two architect parents, was surrounded with design and compositional discipline at an early age. His educational goals reflected his passion for arts as he graduated from Berkeley studying Art History. He went on to FIDM, San Francisco to study Fashion Design only to be followed shortly thereafter by a Masters degree in Architecture.
Combining his experience by working for some of the most prestigious fashion houses as well as architectural design work,Farbod was ready to present his visions of iconic style to the world. He launched his fashion house in 2010 after an apprenticeship in The House of Bijan on Rodeo Drive where he worked side by side with the late designer.
Drawing inspiration from his love of architecture and nature, Farbod threads his collection with a balance between structural and organic composition.
The Process & Innovation
Farbod hand selects the materials that are going to be used on each product. Aside from being handmade by master artisans, the elements incorporated in the pieces garner this attention as well. Custom hardware is hand cast and polished one piece at a time.
Our design house pioneered many innovations in the exotics industry. Namely, the brand invented a signature combination of the use of two or more different exotics on one bag. This evolved further with the extensive use of signature color blocking of exotics. Major international fashion houses have all followed suit and emulated this style.
Barsum bags were the first to incorporate Swarovski Crystals and Feathers on Exotics. They were also the first to source and implement materials in a couture level such as the use of fused ostrich leg panels and Pirarucu fish skin.
The wearable art concept of Barsum bags transforms exceptionally rare materials and adapts them for use in every day life.
